Our gifted coordinators Judy Mack and Dennis Hern, Ph.D. work primarily with our six local districts: Brookville, Jefferson, Mad River, New Lebanon, Northridge and Valley View. They provide gifted services that include the following:
- help with testing and identification
- curriculum design and teaching strategies for gifted and regular education teachers
- professional development opportunities, including inservices with district gifted and regular education teachers as well as larger workshops open to all schools in the county
- consultation with gifted teachers, parents and students
- assistance with planning and attending field trips and college visits
- special parent workshops
- model lessons with gifted classes and regular classroom teachers
- enrichment opportunities for gifted students
- information about competitions and participation in special programs and summer opportunities for bright children
- outdoor education camp for gifted students in grades 4,5, and 6
- affiliation with gifted associations including the National Association for Gifted Children, the Ohio Association for Gifted Children and the West Central Ohio Association for Gifted Children
- preparing yearly reports for the Ohio Department of Education
- informing school districts of legislation pertaining to the education of gifted students in Ohio
